I
created this page because I was tired of thinking about
and seeing my friends only in my head. I wanted this page
to look at and share because I am blessed with some truly
amazing special cherished friends. This website would
not exist without them. They have and are keeping my spirit
alive.
What they all have
in common: energetic, vibrant, powerful, strong, brilliant,
wise, sensitive, caring, sharing, funny, hard-working
and not so coincidentally, all avidly involved in punk.
I either met them in those early heady punk days or
if too young, they immersed themselves so deeply, they
could have been one of us.
The are all actively creating art,
music, writing, interior design, theatre, movies and
lives vital and important to our culture. |
Rosemarie
Patronette aka Wyline
Rosemarie is a very talented photographer, with so many
memorable stories that will make your head spin! She
was always so friendly during our punk days and subsequent
years. I was treated so badly by beautiful people, so
I couldn't understand why she talked to me. I missed
years of the most profound friendship I now share with
her. I truly don't know what I'd do without talking
and emailing her all the time. She shares the most amazing
stories and insights that are so healing. I love to
be there for her and her for me, turning my tears to
laughter, confusion and darkness to clarity and light.
She is helping me realize
my power and strength in every aspect of my life. She
is truly a rare gem who enriches my life. On the surface
we may appear to have little in common, but we are true
sisters under the skin. We are so good to and for each
other, just what two vibrant creative women need! Especially
because I've never had a close relationship with another
female and I've been so lonely for healing girl talk.
We're on a great adventure! |
Alice
Bag
Everyone who knows or has seen Alice (www.alicebag.com) adores her. We can't remember exactly how or when we met,
but it had to be in late 1976. We immediately clicked,
with mutual admiration and respect. Alice and Pleasant
were my favorite people to photograph. I never saw either
of them ever looking the same way twice. Alice had such
attitude – she could have been a top supermodel.
What style, grace, poise in front of the camera and in
life. Read her website and punkblog and be prepared to be
blown away! Insightful, honest and inspiring. I adore
her husband, Greg – they are the perfect pair. He
bought her a guitar for a birthday or anniversary and
is her webmaster. We should all have someone in our life
who "gets" us like he "gets" her.
And he's lucky to get her!
Don't
miss Alice at any of her live shows. Watching her in
Stay at Home Bomb is like being transported back to
our early punk days. Watch my website and hers for some
amazing shots of Alice. She really set the tone for
early LA punk style, on and off-stage, and for being
so sweet. That's why I find "Violence Girl"
and her reputation as an aggressive performer to be
such an interesting contrast to the woman I've known.
She knows when to assert herself and when to be the
loving, accepting, shining presence we love.
Alice (and Greg) have given
me so much strength, always encouraging me to believe
in myself and my photos, and not let the past affect
my present or future. Lesson learned! |
JB
Popplewell
JB is tiny little dynamic pixie from the south, a true
steel magnolia. Read www.moist-towelette.com and be prepared to laugh! She created the site to teach
herself Dreamweaver and she is so funny! She is producing
a film on my fave environmentalist, the misunderstood
Johnny Appleseed. He planted trees to make apple cider
cos the water was bad. But people turned it into booze
and burned his trees.
JB encouraged me to
believe in my dreams and my photos when my life was
in the pits. She reached out to me and never stopped
encouraging me with just a few choice words. I look
forward to sharing new tips I learned in Dreamweaver.
Then hopefully working on another website about my big
dream: a punk archive/database and exhibits. Rosemarie,
JB and I have so much fun together! Can't wait til this
holiday season is over so we can hang at Heidi's Blue
Space and Rosemarie's incredible home. Sisterhood is
powerful and fun!!

Pleasant
Gehman
She has the wildest, wittiest, most vivid imagination
of anyone I've ever met or read about. I am enthralled
when she expresses herself – so clever, what a mind!
We are all waiting for her diary!! I don't want to die
before reading it! The stories she's told me through the
years. Oh the adventures we shared that I photographed.
Lobotomy – I was laughing when I re-read some recently
because she documented my sexual adventures -- nothing
was private around her and thank goodness! She knew and
related the juiciest gossip, some of which I can never
share!
She took
me under her wing – I will never forget going
to the thrift shop next to Bomp Records in early spring,
1977, and gave me tips about looking punk. Putting wild
makeup on me at Farrah, Exene and John's apartment behind
Circus Book aka "Adult Books" that spring.
Calling me at 3 am and going on and on about Tommy Gear's
cheekbones. I don't know if I told her he was gay, but
that wouldn't stop her! Pounding on the glass doors
up in San Francisco with Randy Kaye and the door opened
so they could see Iggy, later bragging about bagging
Iggy (me too, Plez). She didn't let the stitches in
her chin from falling over/on the balcony outside the
Germs' apartment around the corner from my place stop
her from kissing him, no matter how much it hurt. Oh
I need a Pleasant page, and an Alice page, and that
will come.
Pleasant is the funniest
belly dance teacher, a great entertainer with Velvet
Hammer, acted in Firecracker (awaiting US release),
writer, editor, painter, and one of the most beautiful
women to ever walk this earth. Wait til I post some
pix. Pleasant Puss, oh, we had so much fun! How I treasure
knowing Pleasant! What a joyful, lusty, vivacious, life-affirming
woman! Start at http://www.d-filed.com/pleasantgehman.html.
However, it would be cool if she credited ME as the
photographer who shot her and Exene in the shower that's
floating around the net. Credit where credit it due.
It's one of my all-time fave pix.

Susan
Dynner
Director/producer of " Punk's
Not Dead," an incredibly comprehensive documentary.
She encouraged me this past year and although we don't
have time to keep in constant touch, she is a constant
inspiration. Her kindness, support and enthusiasm for
me, while being so busy, is a treat. |
